Our Teaching Philosophy
We chose the name “Still and Strong Yoga” because those are the two qualities yoga gave us. We became both stronger (physically and mentally) and more still by doing yoga. We became more aware of when we need rest, what we need to strengthen, as well as how to reflect and respond to life’s challenges. This is why we are very clear on what and why we teach.
We teach with one purpose: to support people in building strength and stillness on the mat, for when they need it off the mat.
Although Vinyasa Yoga is nowadays one of the most popular types of Yoga, and it has its place and purpose, we’ve found that allowing the student to stay in a pose for a while, allowing them to find their breath in it, is more “our way” of teaching. Hence, we focus more on establishing the basics, finding the appropriate alignment for the body, i.e., fitting the pose to the body, rather than the other way around, and allowing the student to experience the pose.
We believe that this way, the yoga student can maximise both physical and mental benefits from their yoga practice.
Naturally, elements of breathwork, affirmations, reflections, meditations, and sound healing are often incorporated into many of our classes, as yoga is much more than the poses.
